The morning I met Dear Reader in their hotel was a grey, wet and dark one in late October. The wind made people hold their clothes tight, vendors already started to sell chestnuts on the streets... Dear Reader came as a warm, lively and energetic breeze into my neighbourhood.
The South African band is Cherilyn MacNeil, Darryl Torr und Michael Wright, accompanied on their tour by violinist Jean-Louise and Portland-based Brent Knopf (Ramona Falls, Menomena). Brent signs responsible for parts of the production of their latest album release Replace Why With Funny.
Leaving their homeland and the most beautiful light on red earth, they have so far toured the US, played at SXSW and parts of Europe. At their second time here in Vienna, the band and us found time for a shoot. They earned smiles of strangers, songs of children and thanks to the opened guitar-case 2€ as well.
