Ladyfest 2004, EKH, Vienna. I was sitting on the balcony next to my back then lover, drinking too many beers, indulging in the company of each other more than in anything else around us. Until i hear this voice singing and screaming with joy and the audience along with her. I might very likely have never heard more passion in the lines of that Whitney Houston song ‚I will always love you’ before.  The artist in question was Kristin Erickson aka Kevin Blechdom.
Two years later she blew me away once more. This time with Janine Rostron aka Planningtorock with an ace performance at the B72 that Janine later in a conversation characterized as ‚the cult lofi’.

Martina and I meet Kristin and Christopfer (Fleeger) in a friend’s kitchen ready to head off to a nearby laundromat. We drive and arrive. As soon as the costumes are found and put on, instruments are grabbed and a place to sit on or crouch down is found, Kristin and her partner in crime seem to dive into their music, taking us into her euphonic and dismelodic worlds.

After Bitches Without Britches (2003) and Eat My Heart Out (2005) Kevin Blechdom’s new album Gentlemania will be released in the upcoming year. Featured on the record will be guest vocalists Planningtorock, Jamie Lidell and Denzel Sinclair as well as guest instrumentalists Taylor Savvy, Elisabeth King and Andre Vida.

We spent an hour in this rarely frequented, warm and humid place while it is slightly snowing outside. Thank you to all involved and especially to the (invisible) woman behind the counter.
