I do not remember how ‚Such a Common Bird’ came into our all lives, but it must have been years ago that the song found its way onto all our mp3 players. When we were visiting old and new friends (thanks again Emma and Tirza!) in Amsterdam two years ago, we also went to see the artist of that beautiful song, Wendy McNeill. It wouldn t be much longer, that the Canadian accordionista with residence in Stockholm was playing a gig here in Vienna. We introduced ourselves and the idea of a common playgrrround video started to grow. We myspaced back and forth and settled for an afternoon in the upcoming march. Wendy came up with a special request for the shoot. She wanted a Fiaker, one of the horse carriages going through the old part of Vienna. And who are we to refuse someone’s desire?! Especially when she is as dedicated, fun and a great storyteller as Wendy is. Along came a friend of hers, Marie-Josee Houle, but shhh... more about her later on a different page.
After we got off the Fiaker, we realized we were all freezing. But we didn’t want to resist that beautiful late afternoon light only winters can offer. So we pulled the scarves tighter and our mittens on and Wendy started to play a slow song from her previous album with a special appearance of a playing greyhound.
